Which One Is Best?

Tough question! Personally, Puy du Fou was the standout for me. I’m not into scary rides, so this theatrical, immersive park was absolutely perfect. Instead of rollercoasters, it offers grand historical shows with jaw-dropping special effects and large-scale performances that rival productions on major world stages. I was genuinely left in awe—it was like walking into a living movie set.

For my kids, Disneyland Paris and Parc Astérix were the ultimate playgrounds. Both parks offer lots of rides, fun characters, and magical settings. If you want that classic Disney magic, Disneyland is unbeatable. But for something with a strong French identity and a lot of thrills, Parc Astérix is a fantastic alternative, especially if you’re a fan of the famous Asterix comics.

1. Puy du Fou Theme Park

Located near Nantes, Puy du Fou is a historical theme park that immerses you in French history through live-action shows and theatrical reenactments.

Unlike other amusement parks, Puy du Fou doesn’t focus on rides—it’s all about storytelling. From Roman gladiator games to Viking invasions and WWI trench scenes, each show uses dazzling effects and immersive sets. One minute you’re watching a ship rise from water, the next you’re wandering a WWI trench—it’s a time-traveling journey for all ages.

When to Go & How Much Time to Spend

Puy du Fou is open daily from June to August, and on select dates outside this period. One day isn’t enough—plan 2 days to fully enjoy the park.

Where to Stay

There are six themed hotels inside the park, plus campsites and lodges nearby. Staying on-site adds to the immersive experience, with decor that matches the time periods featured in the shows—think medieval castles or Roman villas. If you prefer staying nearby, there are also family-friendly options in Les Epesses and Cholet, about 20 minutes away.

Getting There

Puy du Fou is located in Les Epesses in western France:

From Paris, it’s around 3.5 hours by car.
By train, head to Angers or Cholet, then take a shuttle or taxi to the park.
There are also seasonal buses and travel packages from Paris during peak times.

2. Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris, just 32 km east of Paris, is made up of two theme parks: Disneyland Park (the Magic Kingdom) and Walt Disney Studios Park. It’s a dream come true for Disney fans of all ages.

Expect familiar attractions like It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Space Mountain, alongside seasonal parades and nighttime fireworks that light up the Sleeping Beauty Castle. With themed lands like Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Discoveryland, the park is a world of wonder and nostalgia.

Best Time to Visit

Weekdays outside of school holidays are ideal. Spring and fall offer great weather with fewer crowds. Avoid weekends and peak summer if possible.

Disney hotels let you stay immersed in the Disney universe and often include early access to the park. Options range from luxury (Disneyland Hotel) to budget-friendly (Hotel Cheyenne). There are also plenty of non-Disney hotels nearby in Val d’Europe.

Getting There

From central Paris, take the RER A train to Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy—just a 45-minute ride that drops you at the park’s gates. Driving takes about 40 minutes from Paris.

3. Parc Astérix

Located just 35 km north of Paris, Parc Astérix is based on the beloved French comic books. It’s a vibrant, fun-filled theme park with a strong French identity and a great mix of shows, rollercoasters, and family rides.
